Portfolio process and general reflection (Wk 15)
This week's blog task was to reflect on the course as a whole and the portfolio process for the final assessment piece this semester. Since I have already reflected about my journey through the course and what I achieved in regard to my learning goals in my semester reflection blog post, I will just be focusing on the portfolio process today.
The portfolio process ended up being extremely rushed due to poor time management on my part. I seriously underestimated the amount of work I had to do and forced myself into a corner in completing this assignment. In my last blog post talking about the work I had done toward the portfolio so far, I said that I had compiled all the necessary content for the assignment in an effort to alleviate the work load and take the pressure off. Re-reading the assignment criteria made me realise I had missed a lot of key points and I felt as if though many of the sections I had written were not suitable for the criteria. Unfortunately in the end the majority of the sections I replaced were not much better but I am still somewhat pleased that in the end I could meet some more criteria to help maximise my mark.
The actual coding of my web page was next in my 'fast-tracked' process and is definitely not up to an appropriate standard in my eyes. I definitely need to learn more about fluid web design - making some elements remain on the page and simply resize when the zoom level changes to make my portfolio more compatible with other browsers, devices or specific settings in the future. The current installation of my portfolio struggles to adapt non-chrome browsers set at 100% zoom which is a big issue (as seen in the image below with 50% zoom). Hopefully I can watch some YouTube tutorials or read up on my lecture notes on fluid design to help me implement this functionality in the future.
To be honest with myself, the portfolio I submitted was of pretty poor standard and I know I could have done a lot better. I think I will take a valuable lesson away from this assignment about managing my time better and getting work done. Thankfully, my efforts throughout the rest of the course were significantly better than this personal project so hopefully a poor mark for this assessment item won't drastically affect my overall course performance.
