Workshop portfolio design process (Wk 11)
This week's workshop session was all about planning and preparing to develop our portfolio. A summary of the process I completed and notes I took during the session can be seen below:
Below I have included a list of design elements that I liked and could potentially use in my portfolio:
Site map
Potential design layout
Colour scheme
I really like how black, white and one specific colour work together: the neutral tones of the black and white help exaggerate the single colour and I plan on utilising this in the design.
Text: re-written + stripped text from the blog post regarding Part A, B and C and other assessment items
Images: screenshots of website, sketches + diagrams from development phase
Elements needing to be created
Some sort of simple logo, images for each navigation setting (maybe), design for the website
Milestones
Compile all the necessary content (including writing/striping text from blog posts for portfolio) - by Week 12
Complete all design work and produce high fidelity prototype - by Week 14
Test prototype and fix errors - by Week 15
Upload - by 10/11/17 end of Week 15
Relevant posts that fit the portfolio criteria - Part A posts (Wk 4, 5), Part B posts (Wk 7, 8), Part C posts (Wk 10-12), Portfolio posts (Wk 12 onwards + this post)
Outside of DECO1800
High-school graphics projects, video editing projects, more details in my portfolio content ideas blog post
I feel like I have got a really good grasp on the portfolio assessment thanks to this workshop session. I think phase 1 was the most useful for me as it really helps to show off the 'aesthetic' of portfolios and what design features make them unique and special. I'm positive that these notes and the knowledge gained will prove imperative when constructing my own portfolio.
PHASE 1: Browsing portfolio's for inspiration
Below I have included a list of design elements that I liked and could potentially use in my portfolio:
- Image navigation links: on hover the name of the link shows up and the image darkens - Sagmeister & Walsh's portfolio
- Single page scroll portfolio with links to jump down - Melanie Daveid's portfolio
- Header only shows up once scrolling down the page begins - Studio Schurk's site
- Simple animations on hover - Mark Thomas's portfolio
- Header that automatically changes as the page scrolls - Jesse Willmon's portfolio
PHASE 2: Initial brainstorming
The following have been constructed with a single page scroll type portfolio in mind.Site map
