Further work done towards Project Part C (Wk 12)
This week the team used our time to complete all the remaining components of Project Part C. Considering all the major functionalities of our website are up and running, I spent the majority of my time this week working on the report and the trade-show components of the assessment. As the semester progressed and our web application continued through its development phase, I felt as if I was not able to contribute to the site as much as I should have been, so I decided to step up and take leadership in completing the report section of Part C. Considering this, I allocated my time this week as follows:
Compiling and formatting the report was probably the easiest job I had this week, all of our team members finished their written sections at least a day before the due date so their was enough time to format the document and begin editing. The editing process however was not as straight forward due to our team having three members with an international background. The editing process needed to be rigorous and thorough to make sure that each section met its own technical requirements and that the entire report would be able to best fit the writing (2.5%) and report flow (2.5%) criterion which sum to one fifth of the entire report's marks. A lot of work had to be rewritten for clarity purposes; to ensure that we would be able to maximise our marks for the report section. An example of how I edited one paragraph has been included below (original text on the left, edited text on the left).
- Sunday-Thursday: finishing my report sections
- Friday-Saturday: compiling and formatting the report
- Sunday-Monday: editing the report and running it by the group
My report sections were focused on the first criteria point regarding the final product. I tried to keep the general scope and functionality sections as visual as I could by using dot points and various media (images, graphs, task flows) to not only aid the text but to break it up - reports can often transform into walls of text which can confuse and bore readers. My other major section was about the system workings of the website. Writing this section actually helped me to understand more about some of the code I had no part in writing as I had to read through it and talk to the responsible group member to learn about how the code worked and what pieces of code where imperative to its success. Looking back, I feel lucky to have written this section as it has really helped me to perfectly understand each functionality of the website. I feel like this will especially come in handy at the trade-show if someone asks how a specific component works.
